The [London] Times, Saturday Review, February 1, 2014
This issue includes “The Art of Obnoxiousness” by Gerard DeGroot, p.13 in the Saturday Review section. On the surface this is a review of Barry Miles’ William S. Burroughs: A Life, but actually reads more as a disparaging review of William S. Burroughs, the person. Full of ad hominem statements and ill considerations about Burroughs (including the hope that Burroughs is in Hell [Who hurt you, Mr. DeGroot?]); Burroughs is clearly not a subject that the author has any sympathy for, heading this item with a title that refers best to this suggested book review itself. A fascinating outpouring of revulsion and snobbery.
Includes an image of Burroughs by Loomis Dean.
