Rocky Mountain Musical Express, August 1977

Burroughs contributes "Pay Close Attention; This is not Important", to this scarce Boulder music newspaper, pp. 20-21.  This article discusses the use of the cut-up method in film. The cover states "William Burroughs on Media".

This contribution is likely related to, or the source of, "Screenwriting and the Potentials of Cinema", published in a number of volumes including Writing in a Film Age (ed. Keith Cohen, University Press of Colorado, 1991) and Disembodied Poetics (University of New Mexico Press, 1994).  The former notes that "Screenwriting" is "an edited version of five lectures Burroughs delivered June 1975 and July 1977".Published in Boulder, CO. by Rocky Mountain Musical Express in August of 1977.  This implies this is a first appearance in print of the contents that became "Screenwriting."
